Recap on the Hall's summer of patience

August 10, 2010

The Fall 2010 semester at MTSU is almost ready to kick-off. I haven't registered for a single graduate history class this semester because I have decided to take an undergraduate class in Anthropology and a graduate class in Computer Science. I know the nerd in me is crying out for a computerized class that doesn't involve over ten books to read and write papers about. I still owe Dr. McCormack and Dr. Henry papers about my trip to Peleliu from the spring semester.

After I returned from Peleliu with Chris and beating bronchitus we had to face the issue of the dead HVAC unit. We had the unit charged before we left and it worked fine while we were away. When we returned we noticed the house was getting warmer and not cooler as we adjusted the thermostat. So, with the unit dying and our savings next to nothing, we braced for a long, hot, and humid summer. Thankfully, two friends allowed us to borrow their window AC units. We placed one in the living room and the other one in our bedroom. We also decided to downsize out of our SUV into to mid-size sedan and we purchased a small inexpensive backyard pool. This was the decision that saved our summer!

The pool worked great! After the girls returned from their beach vacation, we swam almost every day. It was so much fun! The pool has been worth the time Chris has spent working on it to keep it from turning green. We also put out a small garden and the girls really enjoy picking peppers and tomatoes in the afternoon. It has been so nice to have fresh veggis from the garden for dinner. I cannot wait to plant a bigger garden next year!

We survived the summer and saved like mad people to replace the unit. As the fall rolled around we had enough cash saved to work a deal to have the unit replaced and managed to enjoy the fall indoors with our new HVAC unit.

It was the start of the new semester at MTSU and the girls' school year that created chaos in our lives once again. I opted to take two Information Systems classes and the both girls were enrolled in dance. I had class on Monday and Wednesday evenings while the girls had back to back dance classes on Mondays and Chris had Boy Scout meetings on Mondays and unit commissioner duties on Thursdays. So, there goes our week! No rest for the weary or over commited family.

Stay tune because the dance recital is only nine months away and maybe I will make it through the fall 2010 semester.
