Well, I realize that it has been since February that I have posted anything to my blarg and that many of you may have assumed the Girl Scout cookies may have eaten me. The cookies did get a nibble or two in before all were delivered but dance took over after cookies then a quick trip to the beach followed and our summer plans were derailed around Father's Day. Let me tell you how our summer involved a broken leg, mystery garden and how I have been winging it for the past six weeks or more.
We had an extremely busy spring with the arrival of over 300+ boxes of Girl Scout cookies that the girls sold throughout our neighborhood, at church, at school, to our family and from working several cookies booths in the snow and rain. I was ready for them to move quickly and they did! After the cookie delivery marathon was completed we geared up for dance.
Dance is so awesome, if you are a dance mom that loves hair, recital pictures, makeup and more! I do not. I love my girls and they want to dance, so I attempt to be the best little calm dance mom I can be. I am not usually calm around dance because it stresses me out! I failed hair braiding as a tween and decided shooting guns and playing softball and basketball were more fun than fixing hair. I know how to put my hair in a ponytail and that is about it. Makeup? What is that crap!
Anyway, we danced and rehearsed all spring long in anticipation for the big show on Memorial Day Weekend. Everything was going to plan as the Friday night show went off without issue and the girls' hair and makeup looked wonderful. I put in hairpieces then watched a few videos on how to put on blush and I even consulted a Mary Kay Consultant on how to put on eye make up. I was thinking one more show and we are in the clear and headed to Florida for our first family beach vacation in over two years. I was so stoked to be going to the beach with an eleven and fiver year old this year. No diapers or unnecessary naps or other baggage that comes with going to the beach with babies. This beach trip was going to be the best ever!
Saturday, Memorial Day Weekend 2012 and we show up for our last dance recital. The girls are jazzed, I am feeling awesome and Chris has went home to collect our stuff so we can go to the beach. All is great in Bethany's World or is it? I take the girls inside and realize quickly I am in over my head with the dance mom duties. First, I am the ONLY mom assigned to Lizzie's group of four and fiver year olds. There are supposed to be twelve of them and one of me! Panic begins to set in as I realize that I am short one dancer and we are ten minutes to showtime. Word filters back that the little girl got sick at another little dancers house the night before and has been puking since midnight. The parents sent word that the pediatrician thought it was sinus drainage and that a stomach virus is not to blame for the sickness. My gut flipped at the utterance of the words "stomach virus" but I continued to smile my way through the day. No one got sick during the recital and I thought all was well. I survived kids trying to put on their own make-up, smuggling in unapproved snacks and everyone shared one of my lipsticks. No worries right, it is only sinus trouble because everyone has sinus issues that live in Tennessee or do they?
The Beach!!!!!! We arrived in record time at 2 am and after a little rest time decided to hit the beach. We were having a blast until Lizzie started acting tired and grumpy. She crawled up in my lap under the beach umbrella on a glorious afternoon and started to puke on me. The stomach virus was then unleashed on all the Halls, Webbs and Bozarths!!!!!! Before the week was done, Lizzie, Chris, Randle, and Nancy all were sick either at the beach or on the way home. So much for that little girl with sinus issues!
So, that is how my summer of pain began. Within two weeks of vacation, Chris feel on Father's Day down the steps at church and broke his leg. I was cat sitting for a friend and the cat died! One day before Chris was to have his cast removed, he ran over my little toes and broke them with his wheelchair on my left foot and I ended up hobbly for two weeks. Lizzie has had tons of bumps, bruises, strep throat and bronchitius. Poor Lizzie and I spent the month of July in and out of the doctor's office for all kinds of aliments. Lilly has faired the best and has stayed away from all of us! She is so smart! Anyway, time marches on and the school year is getting ready to begin. Hopefully good things are on there way!
How in the world did the cat die while you were petsitting? I miss you!
ReplyDeleteSorry, K for the late reply but he was old and sick. Another friend of the family I was pet sitting for had the cat cremated and then the family had a memorial service for him. But I learned a great lesson during this tragedy.
ReplyDeleteI have now instituted a pet sitting policy that your pet must be in good health, have pet insurance or tons of cash available if I am called upon to pet sit. I have only been asked once since I put the policy in place to pet sit. So, my pet sitting days my be numbered.
